I can't believe it's taken me this long to do an at home manicure tutorial! Keeping your nails in good condition is so important. Even if your nail art is flawless, if it's surrounded by dry, overgrown cuticles it won't look as good as it could. A painter is only as good as the canvas he paints on. Don't skip on the nail care, ladies!
In this tutorial I used a 180 grit file I got from Target, Be Natural Cuticle Eliminator, a two way buffer and OPI Nail Envy Base Coat. There's lots of different base coats out there that treat all sorts of nail problems, so take the time to find the right one for your nail type.
tips & tricks
Choose a shape for your nails before you start filing. The most popular are round, square and squoval. For a more detailed breakdown, check out my nail filing guide.
Avoid cutting your cuticles as much as possible. Cuticle eliminator is a much safer way to get rid of them without risking cutting live skin.
If you've never pushed back your cuticles, it's probably going to hurt a bit. Just soak your nails a little longer and take it slowly and gently.
Pushing back your cuticles will make your nails seem instantly longer!
When you buff your nails, use a "1,2,3,lift" pattern to avoid overbuffing one area. Doing that can create a burning feeling and thin your nail too much.
You can also apply cuticle oil when you're all done. It's a great way to restore moisture to your nail. I reccommend applying it every day.
